Emulating a NAC appliance using vmware
Jul 18th, 2008 by andy
Well it took some time for me to post this because I was kind of busy with a load of things to do but I finally managed to finish the video for that, the next one will be for MARS soon.
Just need to go to Tutorials and check out for the new video for NAC, enjoy it!!!

Hi there. I have already set up the CAS and CAM in my vmware environment. My problem right now is that I am trying to figure out how to either connect the CAS and CAM to my Dynamips/GNS3 environment or use real switches to set up the Network Access Device to enforce L2-IP or L2-802.1X. Has anyone else been successful with setting up NAC in vmware and setting up a Network Access Device
Also I wanted to know if anyone has been successful in connecting the NM-16ESW module for the 3700 Series Router to NAC appliance in Vmware
Hi Rich,
I’m not sure about the 3700 Series Router with a NM-16ESW, about connecting routers (Dynamips) with NAC you shouldn’t have any problem, make sure your NIC to the CAS and CAM is binding using loopbacks and then using Dynamips bind those loopbacks inside ports connected into NM-16ESW (in my Security Dynamips I’m using 3640 with NM-16ESW as the switches).
HTH,
Andy
Hey thanks for the help. i just needed to know can i do the same thing but connecting my CAM and CAS to GNS3. Any idea if that can be done?
Yes it can, just bind the Vmare Ethernet config with a MS-loopback and then connect that loopback on the dynamips (.net file). Let me know if you could do that.
Hey thanks again for the help. Now I have In-Band mode working correctly. i wanted to know because of the Layer 3 requirements if Out Of Band mode is possible to do with the 3640 with NM-16ESW for Cisco NAC in Vmware.
great
Is this possible with NAC Appliance 4.5
Seems like Cisco have now restricted this to known cisco hardware, bum deal.
